The investment fund Change finances the start-up GiveActions. Simply by looking at advertisements, their application allows users to raise funds for associations active in environmental protection or social action. An eco-responsible and committed platform supported by three young engineers just graduated from the Solvay Entrepreneurs Start Lab: Maxime Van Der Meerschen, Elias Prinz and Gaspard Merten. Offering meals to the homeless, planting trees in Belgium or offering sweaters to migrants is now possible by spending only a few minutes of your time.

In just a few months, they developed an app where members of their community discover every day advertising videos of green or social businesses. In exchange for this viewing, members can allocate 50% of the advertising revenue from their viewing to an association of their choice to support projects that generate a positive societal or environmental impact.

The platform already gathered more than 18,000 members; each user has his own page that allows him/her to put the contribution he may have generated for a project. “It is together that we will be able to make things happen and convey the values we hold dear,” stressed Maxime Van Der Meerschen. As for the advertisers, they remain here. The platform allows them to address an audience that is sensitive to their message and ethical positioning.

For some years now, entrepreneurship has been on the rise among young people. More and more of them are still studying, preparing or launching an activity in parallel with their studies. However, this trend is even stronger when we talk about social entrepreneurship. These “millennials” in search for meaning want to start their professional careers with projects that have a societal impact. This is good news in a context where our business model needs to reinvent itself and incorporate more sustainability.
